Today is father’s day. I wish I was at home so I could give Dad a big hug and tell him how much I love him. But alas I am in Holland, his home country.
I have been sitting here for hours trying to think of something to write, but no words can describe how lucky I am to have him as my father. So instead I have some photos of him that I want to show to explain why I am so proud to be his daughter.
Dad joins in at every birthday party, from puppet shows, cooking sausages on the BBQ, doing the waltz with my friend Joel, being the Pizza baker but best of all leading the congo line of all my friends around the lounge room…

…out the back door to outside, through the garden, up the back steps, across the deck, through the upstairs lounge room, out the front door, up the drive way before going a U-turn and leading everyone back down the driveway through the front door, down the internal stairs and back into the party room.
Yes, we have a party room. Dad installed a neon light and a disco ball. Jacob and I always had (and still do have) the best parties!
Lindsay and I moved house twice in 1 year. We didn’t even need to ask Dad to help, he just needed a date and time.
He had our old apartment empty in no time.
The tiny lift was no match for him:

He squeezed that couch, Lindsay’s dad Justin, and my brother Jacob into the tiny lift and ran up 7 flights of stairs to pull them out again at the other end!
He built our bed for us and very kindly tested it out!
When we moved to Asquith he hired a truck to move all of our stuff.

It was so much fun riding through the city with my dad driving!
If thats not enough evidence about how awesome my Dad is…here is some more.
Dad is famous for: his coffee, his fish ponds, “iPhones for everybody!”, his funny Dutchlish (for which we always never tease him), his laptops - either second hand or purple,

…disappearing for nanna naps, going to Bunnings for hours on end, his headlight, falling asleep on the floor but most importantly his 1 legged airplanes.
I demonstrated the 1 legged airplane to the people of Scotland of my Dad’s behalf.
Dad is always there for me, he listens to my problems and helps me fix them. Whether my problem is an argument with friends, or a fridge that leaks and makes weird rattling noises.
He has taught me so many important things: how to communicate, how to paint a wall, how to respect others, how to play 500, how to be happy, how to use a drill, how to use a video camera, how to lay pavers and how to use a thicknesser, how to drive a car and how to set up a tent, how to take a photo and how to use the self timer mode on the camera and how to ruin the photo with fantastic results.
There is nothing about my Father I would change and I miss him very much! Dad, in 100 days Dad I will be on my way home to celebrate Christmas with you, Mum and Jacob!
So have the traditional Decates family cocktails and red Christmas aprons ready!
