Today it is mother’s day.
And being the wonderful daughter that I am…I didn’t quite remember…I was busy….and then the bus was late….aliens….post failure….ummmmm
So Mum, here is your mother’s day present, a blog post just for you
This is me and my mum, Margi. We look nothing alike but I have been told that we have similar personalities…we are both really friendly???
I follow in her footsteps because I feel she has done everything right in her life.
If I had the choice between going to a wild party or staying home and playing a game or watching a movie with my family…I would choose my family. When I am with my mum I feel like I can be myself, and I enjoy being in her company.
Although she has never been what I would classify…as a normal mother
When we were at school she used to keep my brother and I home from school if it was raining and we would sit by the window in the lounge room and have a picnic lunch. Or during school holidays we would go into the city on an adventure, each with a back pack on carrying our peanut butter sandwiches for lunch. Or the time we went on a picnic and it rained, so we sat in the boot of the old volvo we used to have and watched the rain while eating our picnic lunch. (hmmm a lot of picnics and rain). The parties she would host for me, staying up all night making fudge for my Old Fashioned party, hanging streamers for Disco parties and holding the broom for Limbo! The time she fell into the bath fully clothed! Or when she would get cross with Jacob and I…and we would make her laugh so couldn’t be cross anymore, that was fantastic.
On my year 12 retreat everyone was given a letter from their parents. Everyone’s was in your average Envelope. Except for mine, it was in a huge A4 Envelope made out of Frangipani wrapping paper, I was so embarresed! Now I am so proud and lucky that I have a mother who would go to all that effort for me!
As much as I tease her about them, I love her quirkyness. How she puts leftovers in the fridge no matter how small the amount of food leftover is! The way she talks to her chickens and won’t let anyone tell the dog that she is adopted.

The way she comes and helps me clean if we are moving/leaving/getting married/sick, she steps in and helps with no complaints!
Even though I don’t live in her house anymore, when I am sick there is nothing better than to go back home, have her tuck me in on the couch with lovely fresh sheets and put her cool hand on my face. If something bad/funny/scary/interesting/sad/aggrivating happens the first thing I do is phone her and tell her all about it. Every tiny little detail. I don’t need her to do anything about it, just know. She is my base and when things happen I have to report back to base so I can continue on being a grown up.
She has always been so supportive of me, and has never missed an excursion, school play, formal, presentation etc.
As I get older we are becoming more like friends than mother and daughter and I really like that. It is so leuk to go out for lunch together, or cook a meal together or even sit and talk non-stop together.
I like how she not only is interested in me, but also in Lindsay and my friends! She often joins in with the rest of us girls and no one bats an eyelid, its fantastic!
While I am far away, I think about you everyday. While in Scotland I kept thinking, I know now why Mum loves it here. When visiting all the rellies I wonder if I remind them of you. When at the garden centre today I saw flowers you would love to have in your garden but can’t because of naughty chickens and possums! I hope you are not missing me too much and are able to have a lovely day with Dad today.
So to my lovely, wonderful, eccentric, funny, spirited, caring, generous, cheeky and loving Mother. Happy Mother’s Days!
I love you lots!
And you being the biggest fan of my blog, I promise to return to the scheduled broadcast asap!
