Nijmegen, Heesh and Oss

The day after we went to Maastrict it was Mother’s day! Mick made croissants and boiled eggs, while Vince set the table. I assisted by knocking a wine glass over with my elbow and smashing it into a million pieces. We had lots of yummy food to celebrate Mother’s day, my favourite was strawberries on crackers with a sprinkle of icing sugar! Marleen had requested that she did NOT get any bath oil, so Jur and the boys found all the bath oil from previous years and wrapped them up and gave them to her! It was very amusing.

After breakfast I was picked up by the Fokkers, a little history for those who do now know the Fokkers. Once of Dad’s best friends when growing up was Dick Fokker. Dick moved to Australia just before Dad did. Dick and Marja kid’s Tim and Nikki are the same ages as Jacob and I. They lived in Berowra when we were all little, so most of my memories up until the age of 10 includes the Marja, Dick, Tim and Nikki. We would spend at least 1 day at week with each other. We used to have sleep overs, dress up parties, Sinterklaas parties, birthday parties and trips to the park! Nikki and I used to pick all of Marja’s flowers and try to sell them to passer’s by. Tim and I would play batman and catwoman, then we would climb the pine tree in their front yard before relaxing in front of a movie (It was usually Home Alone). If you want embarrassing stories about Jacob and I you only need to ask them…they have all the evidence, on film. When I was 10 they moved back to Holland. We have seen them maybe about 5 times since they left. Each time I am with the Fokkers, it feels very normal and we all pick up where we left off!

So they picked me up from Jur and Marleen’s house, and went to watch some of Nikki’s ballroom dance class, she is amazing! Dick went and picked Tim up from the train, he had just arrived from Eindhoven where he lives. We went back to their house which is so bright and colourfull, Marja has amazing artworks through the house some of which I plan to steal and take home with me. She has promised to do some mosaics with me when we next go visit them. We chatted for ages, Tim and I joking around just like we used. Nikki arrived back from her dance class and we watched the Wedding DVD, which Dick (who used to make wedding videos)was impressed with! We had dinner and sat around talking about old times and my family back home.
I stupidly forgot to take photos :-(

During my last day in Nijmegen, Jur and I went to the tip, twice!

A rather interesting piece of wood I found next to the shed when transferring stuff from the shed to the car

Then we went through the car wash! It was only my second time going through a car wash, the first time was also with Jur…in the same car wash when I was only 6 years old!

In the afternoon Jur and Mick took me to Oortjeshekken, which means…eargate. Its a lovely little place just outside Nijmegan where there are green flowing medows.

Those cows must be Friesen!

The road is on the top of the dykes, we stopped to walk around the edge of the river

The part we went to had wild horses and cattle!

There were lots of little finches stealing leftovers from the plates on the other tables!

Mick and I had our photo taken in (many times) the doorway of the cafe, of all the photos I think this one is the funniest!

I got up early the next morning because Jur was dropping me off at Oma and Opa’s on his way to work.
I made it in time for breakfast with Oma and Opa. I looked through old photographs while Oma was at yoga. I found some old photos of my dad!

And Dad as a page boy at his Tante’s (aunt’s) Wedding!

Oma was mightily impressed with my iphone! I took this photo of her with my iphone, which I think is such a nice photo of her!

She and I then went for a walk in nature reserve.Where the trees had eyes

and the bushes had weird spider webs

That evening Lindsay arrived back!! Oma drove me to the station to meet him and then dropped us off at Maarten and Yvonne’s house where we were to stay the night. Yvonne cooked a yummy dinner for us and invited Oma and Opa as well.

The next morning Lindsay fixed Opa’s computer so he could connect to the internet, and is thus my Opa’s favourite person! While he fixed the computer, Oma and I Skyped with my Mum and Dad.

Then we hopped back onto the bikes and rode into town to meet with Elke. Her classmates were having a muck-up day where they can do crazy stuff like tip their teacher off a chair into a pool of water:

She then gaves us a quick tour of her school and showed us her artworks, which were really awesome.

Then we had lunch, and packed our bags, and caught the train to Den Haag to meet with Beer!
